On Sunday, 28.08.2022, a sports boat approximately five meters long capsized on the Saar. The four crew members had been traveling on the Saar with their boat coming from Völklingen. At the level of the Lisdorf lock, the moment of panic occurred. The passengers noticed that the stern of the light blue boat was gradually filling with water. The boat operator immediately used a bilge pump to pump the incoming water back into the Saar. However, it was not possible to prevent the vessel from filling up. After only a few minutes, the boat was completely filled and capsized. All persons on the boat had to save themselves by jumping into the Saar. The people and their four-legged companions were unharmed. The boat operator told the police that he could imagine a problem with the so-called bilge plug or a hole in the hull as the cause of the accident. In addition to the police, the responsible Water and Shipping Authority is also on site. They are now trying to recover the capsized sports boat. The recovery work will take several hours.
