Saarbrücken (ots) - On Saturday, August 27, 2022, between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM, a registered demonstration by the citizens' movement PAX Europa on the topic "Enlightenment about political Islam" took place on Reichsstraße in Saarbrücken. Approximately 150 citizens participated.
People who supported the position of the assembly as well as passersby who openly criticized the assembly's topic and speeches showed keen interest in the demonstration.
Further on, there were provocations between participants and passersby. The atmosphere of the assembly heated up to such an extent that further disturbances could only be prevented through quick and decisive police intervention. The police, who were on site with approximately 40 officers, had to carry out identity checks and initiated several criminal proceedings, including for bodily harm and offenses against state security.
Further investigations are carried out by the department for police state protection.
