Police officers from the Nordsaarland Police Station were on patrol on the night from Saturday (28.08) to Sunday (29.08) on the L 135 between the localities of Gonnesweiler and Türkismühle when they encountered a moped rider coming towards them. The officers turned the patrol car around to stop the rider for a check. However, the rider did not respond to the stop signals and instead tried to evade control by sharply accelerating his apparently modified moped. The man fled for almost a kilometer before losing control of his vehicle near a private property and colliding head-on with a garage wall. He then refrained from further attempts to flee and remained uninjured in the accident. A breathalyzer test showed a value within the range of absolute unfitness to drive. Additionally, there were indications of possible influence of narcotics. The moped, which was traveling at more than twice the permitted speed, was confiscated. Officers from the called-in St. Wendel Police Station took a blood sample from the man by order. He faces investigations, among other charges, for suspicion of endangering road safety, illegal motor vehicle racing, and driving without a license.
