High-profile visit in Völklingen: In 1894, Emperor Wilhelm II was traveling in his royal train on the railway line along the Saar and made a stop in Völklingen – completely spontaneously and without prior notice! An embarrassing situation for the unprepared stationmaster and certainly for the Emperor himself, who was received in anything but an imperial manner. No dignitaries, no maidens with flower cones, and no factory band to properly welcome the crowned head…
The VHS history group "Völklinger Myth Hunters" is using the 1,200-year city anniversary as an occasion to make amends for the historical disgrace and to welcome the "Emperor" with all due pomp at the Old Station in Völklingen. This time, His Majesty will be personally greeted by Völklingen's mayor, the elderly patriarch Carl Röchling has also announced his attendance, and the spectacle will be musically accompanied by the factory band.
So that Emperor Wilhelm II can enjoy a bath in the crowd this time, all citizens of Völklingen are invited to attend in large numbers and pay tribute to the sovereign.
The event will take place on Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 2 p.m. on the parking lot of the Völklingen train station.
