The municipality of Mettlach and the Saarland energy provider energis signed a contract on August 16, 2022, for the planning, construction, operation, and management of street lighting in the municipality of Mettlach. The contract comes into effect on January 1, 2023, and ends on December 31, 2042.
With this, Energis provides its know-how to gradually bring the street lighting in Mettlach up to the latest technical standards, especially with digitally intelligently controllable LED luminaires. Energis has experience and expertise in the conversion to LED technology; for example, the lighting in Nohfelden and Nonnweiler was converted to LED with significant savings effects. "The switch to LED enabled the energy consumption for street lighting to be reduced by around 9,000 kWh per year in Nohfelden-Eiweiler, and in Nonnweiler-Otzenhausen, approximately 16,700 kWh of electricity are saved annually through the conversion," reports Energis CEO Michael Dewald.
The municipality of Mettlach hopes for a similar effect. Mayor Daniel Kiefer is pleased to be able to continue the long-standing successful cooperation with energis in this street lighting project. “Energis has always been and continues to be a reliable partner for us, as recently demonstrated by the implementation of e-mobility in our municipality with several charging stations, including in the center of Mettlach and at the Cloef-Atrium in Orscholz. We now want to continue this good cooperation. Additional charging points are planned for next year at the Abtei Brewery. Likewise, the conversion of street lighting to LED will be further advanced in the districts. The districts of Dreisbach, Bethingen, Wehingen, and Faha will be the first to begin next year.”
First, the inspection of the existing lighting systems and light points will now begin. After this inventory, the planning of the renewal will follow. Only then can it be estimated which savings Mettlach can expect in street lighting.
