Mayor Christiane Blatt: "New shopping magnet for the city center"
The 46th branch of the Swabian textile retailer MODEPARK RÖTHER, with over 5,400 square meters of sales area and more than 300 fashion brands, has commenced operations in Völklingen. This marks the realization of a shopping offer that the city has long worked towards, over 20 years after the closure of the Kaufhof branch at the same location.
“The reopening in the heart of our city center is exactly the signal we have been waiting for a long time,” says Völklingen’s Mayor Christiane Blatt to the guests at the inauguration celebration on the eve of the official opening day. “It is the first major step to make Völklingen’s city center more attractive. In the next steps, we will create an urban and aesthetically appealing traffic and plaza area between the Old Town Hall and the fashion and shopping center, in order to offer a comprehensive shopping experience. This also includes the monument-appropriate restoration of the facade of the Old Town Hall.”
Also, Saarland's Minister of Economic Affairs Jürgen Barke agrees: "The new Modepark Röther will strengthen the experiential character of Völklingen's city center and create an attractive point of attraction in the region. It is a strong signal for the location that the city has succeeded in bringing such a renowned retail company from the fashion industry to Saarland. This shows that investors believe in our economic location and its performance."
In addition to Modepark Röther, a branch of ACTION and a PUBLICENTER kiosk will also open on August 25th. Soon, a TAKKO store will complete the range. A dedicated parking garage offers 260 customer parking spaces, which can be accessed directly via the B 51.
