On Monday, September 5th, a public blood donation event by the DRK Blood Donation Service West will once again take place at the Saarbrücken Castle. Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., blood donation stations will be available in the castle's ballroom for donors. Upon request, a typing for stem cell donor registration can also be done during the blood donation. The last event in April was a great success with 58 willing donors – including 13 first-time donors. Appointments can be reserved online in advance at www.blutspende.jetzt (direct link: terminreservierung.blutspendedienst-west.de/m/saarbruecken-regionalverband).
Anyone aged 18 or older can donate blood, and new donors up to their 68th birthday. A valid photo ID should always be brought for the blood donation. Men are allowed to donate six times and women four times within twelve months. There must be 56 days between two blood donations. Individuals who tested positive for the coronavirus must wait four weeks before they are allowed to donate blood again.
For anyone who wants to learn more about blood donation appointments near their place of residence, the DRK Blood Donation Service West has set up a free hotline. All questions are answered at 0800 11 949 11 or by email at hotline@bsdwest.de. Regardless, you can also find information online at www.blutspendedienst-west.de.
