“We haven't had such good weather for ages. The last time we had not a single rainy day was in 2003,” says Ute Recktenwald, beaming like the sun during the four days of the Wambefeschd 2022. The municipal employee responsible for the festival, like her boss, Mayor Lutz Maurer, is also thrilled by the large number of visitors who streamed into the center of Quierschied on all days. After two years of enforced Corona break, this was not to be expected. “Finally, after two years of drought, I am pleased to welcome you here again,” said Mayor Maurer at the official opening of the festival on Friday, August 19. During the subsequent keg tapping by patron Torsten Lang, State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior, Mayor Maurer, local representative Stefan Ziegler, as well as Wolfgang Schug (Club Fröhlichkeit/Die Quierschder Wambe), Claudio Marcello (ASC Quierschied), and Patrik Pabst (Gasthaus ‘De Pabschd’) had to pitch in to coax the coveted contents from the barrel. In addition to those mentioned, numerous officials from the municipality and surrounding areas made their way to the Wambefeschd. These included the first deputy of the municipality, Eva Bastian, and the local representatives Markus Jung (Fischbach-Camphausen) and Peter Saar (Göttelborn), as well as Christian Jung (Mayor of the city of Friedrichsthal), Mary Rose Bramer (first deputy of the city of Sulzbach), Paul Pendorf from the local heritage and tourism association, and many representatives of clubs and the municipal administration.
As is customary at the Wambefeschd, there was something for everyone: young and old enjoyed the entertaining and diverse program from early morning until late, the offerings of the showmen, as well as the usual wide culinary range for which the festival is named. The only exception was the traditional grand fireworks display, which visitors had to do without. In coordination with the local police authority and the Quierschied fire department, Mayor Maurer had this canceled at short notice. "The current drought and the events of recent days led us to this decision, and I assume everyone understands," said Mayor Maurer, who took this opportunity to once again thank the fire department comrades for their voluntary commitment.
Furthermore, Mayor Maurer thanked all sponsors and the AG Wambefeschd, consisting of the Club Fröhlichkeit (“Kittelclub”), “which, following old tradition and with great dedication, is running its booth again this year,” the handball players of ASC Quierschied, and the restaurateur couple Manuela and Patrik Pabst, “who played a crucial role in the planning and now also in the execution of the catering with great enthusiasm and effort.” He also expressed his gratitude to the operators of the rides, the Fischbacher Musikanten, the Tell shooting club, the Kneippverein Quierschied, the carnival club Die Quierschieder Wambe, as well as the German Red Cross, the Malteser Aid Service, and the police for their contributions and support during the Wambefeschd. Last but not least, Mayor Maurer also highlighted the work of the employees of the public order office and the municipal building yard, and especially extended “a big thank you to my employee Ute Recktenwald, who was responsible for organizing the Wambefeschd!”
