St. Ingbert will also participate in the European Mobility Week this year. Currently, an exciting program is being developed with partners from the city community and the region.
The European Mobility Week – EMW for short – is an international campaign by the EU Commission and has been providing municipalities across Europe with the perfect opportunity since 2002 to bring sustainable mobility closer to their citizens locally. Each year, the European Mobility Week focuses on a special theme that draws attention to a particular aspect of sustainable mobility. Under the motto "Better Connected," this year the emphasis is on connecting places, but also on connecting people – whether neighbors, institutions, or different planning levels. Interesting synergy effects can also arise through links with other cross-cutting topics, such as environmental and climate protection or health promotion.
Everything revolves around the motto "Better connected"
True to the motto, the municipal mobility manager, in cooperation with the cycling officer of the municipality of Kirkel and the mobility manager of the Saarpfalz district, is offering a joint bike tour across municipal borders at the start of the week. Within the framework of this "chain conversation," there will be an opportunity to exchange ideas about sustainable mobility in the city area and the Saarpfalz district in general. Furthermore, it is planned to partially close Rickertstraße to car traffic on Saturday, September 17, 2022. In the traffic-calmed street area, the local ADFC group, together with other actors, will organize a flea market focused on bicycles, where bikes, spare parts, and accessories can be exchanged or offered independently. As a special highlight, the most original bike will be awarded. This event will be accompanied, among other things, by the award ceremony of the Stadtradel campaign and a presentation on modern public transport.
In cooperation with the municipality of Kirkel, a bicycle counting will also take place this week on the L 119 between Rohrbach and Kirkel to get a sense of how many cyclists use the country road as a connection between the communities.
Due to the success last year, the "commuter breakfast" will be distributed again. The administration plans to give out around 100 breakfast bags as a "thank you" to those who are sustainably mobile in the city area.
A student group from HTW Saar is also participating in Mobility Week and will be focusing on the topic of "Mobility stations in the urban area."
Dennis Becker, the city mobility manager, is particularly pleased about the participation of the district hospital in the EMW with its own program items that draw attention to sustainable mobility.
This year, the EMW will also be visible in the urban streetscape. In cooperation with the district administration, posters have been designed to promote sustainable mobility and, with a focus on public transport/INGO, during the campaign period. This draws on the currently running public transport marketing campaign of the Saarpfalz district, which aims to highlight the city bus INGO with new slogans and a slightly modified layout.
Participating for the sake of the environment is worthwhile!
In principle, everyone is invited to participate in the European Mobility Week in St. Ingbert. Such a campaign raises awareness for sustainable mobility and can encourage individuals to examine their own mobility behavior with regard to sustainability aspects. During this week, simply try how walking, bus, train, and bicycle, as well as car-sharing and carpooling, can be integrated into your everyday mobility.
Further information and the complete program of the EMW can be found on the city's website from the beginning of September.
Would you like to participate at short notice with your own program item or activity in the EMW in St. Ingbert? Please feel free to contact the city mobility manager Dennis Becker for this purpose.
