On Wednesday, August 24th, starting at 7:30 PM, a benefit concert featuring refugee Ukrainians as well as Polish and German artists will take place on the stage in the Saarbrücken Castle Garden. Under the title "Connection and Unity Despite Cultural and Historical Differences," they symbolize and celebrate cultural diversity with their joint performance. The event is under the patronage of Regional Association Director Peter Gillo: "The suffering caused by the ongoing Russian war of aggression in Ukraine is enormous. The proceeds from the benefit concert can be used to provide targeted support to the people on site. This way, we can show solidarity together." The concert is organized by the citizens' initiative Info.Saar.UA. Before the concert, at 6 PM, a demonstration march will take place on the occasion of Ukrainian Independence Day, ending at Schlossplatz. The starting point is in front of the EUROPA-Galerie. The funds collected will be used for deliveries by the citizens' initiative to Ukraine. Aid supplies will be brought to cities such as Kyiv, Dnipro, Lutsk, Kharkiv, Lviv, and Mykolaiv.
The benefit concert is part of the artistic program of the citizens' initiative Info.Saar.UA, specifically aimed at raising funds to help Ukraine and making Ukraine more tangible for the people of Saarland. The first benefit event, "A Safe Harbor," took place on June 16 on the theater ship Maria-Helena. The funds raised there are currently being used to provide medical and humanitarian aid to the hospital in the port city of Mykolaiv. This hospital is located near the front line and treats both civilians and war wounded. The first delivery of aid supplies took place on July 2.
