The new funding opportunity "Youth Takes Action" complements the successful implementation of Saarland's Corona catch-up program.
“Children and young people have had to forgo many familiar things during the Corona pandemic over the past two years; therefore, it is especially important to focus our attention on them. Since the middle of last year, Saarland has increased funding for children and youth work through the Corona Catch-Up Program and is placing further emphasis on community work. The existing programs of the Corona Catch-Up Program Youth Creates Spaces, Youth in Action, and Youth Is Seen are now being supplemented by the program section Youth Takes Action – Strengthening Engagement in the Social Space,” explains Youth Minister Dr. Magnus Jung.
This new program item promotes all other offerings from the field of open youth work and community-based work according to § 11 para. 2 SGB VIII, which bring young people together in defined areas and appear suitable for individual-personal support.
These include, for example, measures and projects in the following areas:
• Social activities and social infrastructure
• Coexistence of different social and ethnic groups
• Health promotion
• Climate protection
• Sports and leisure, culture
• Living and residential environment, district culture
• Promotion of democracy
Additionally, programs that are characterized by a close spatial connection to young people within disadvantaged local or urban areas can be supported. This also includes self-help and citizen initiatives, as they have developed in the course of social movements as initiatives by those affected for self-help and as initiatives to help others.
The four funding programs are independent of each other and can be utilized by project sponsors in Saarland. Dr. Magnus Jung appeals to all associations, clubs, and sponsors as well as their voluntary and full-time staff to take advantage of the funding programs. The funding modalities and applications are published on the ministry's website: www.saarland.de/jugendsozialarbeit.
