The program, praised by participants and citizens alike, is making a second appearance in print format. Albrecht Hauck, Deputy Mayor for Associations, Sports, Tourism, and Culture in St. Ingbert, praises the VHS: "It's an important building block in society.". He continues, "For young and old alike, it offers numerous educational and leisure opportunities that you won't find anywhere else at this price-performance ratio. I can only recommend the VHS".
Marika Flierl, director of the Biosphere-VHS, and Christa Strobel, director of the VHS branches Rohrbach and Hassel, have once again put a great deal of effort into shaping the program available in print and online. Although the program is identical in both formats, the online version may contain up-to-date information and new courses.
What new and special courses are being offered? New courses include Foodsharing, Regional Cuisine, Cooking Courses for National and International Cuisine, and an introduction to Single-Malt Whisky, which cater to people with a special interest in good and healthy food and cooking.
Those interested in learning more about the history of St. Ingbert and the region can sign up for courses such as "Resistance against Nazi Dictatorship", an introduction to the use of the city archives, various city tours, or a trip to Abbey Tholey with a visit to the Albert-Weisgerber Exhibition.
Creative citizens can practice skills like book art design, silk painting, pottery, continuation courses from the Summer Academy, painting, and more in Hassel. Courses on macrame, Tiffany, soap making, sewing, and more are offered in Rohrbach.
Health-related offerings are not just a trend since the Coronavirus pandemic: yoga, forest bathing, heart relaxation, meditation, happiness, boosting the immune system, and more are topics for health-conscious individuals. "These courses are led by medically trained and certified instructors", explains Marika Flierl, thus documenting the quality of the offerings.
Skills such as smartphone use, cycling for beginners and returning cyclists (bike and e-bike), will also be taught. "In Hassel and Rohrbach, the smartphone courses 1 – 3 for seniors and the many children's courses on topics not covered in school are particularly notable", says Christa Strobel, who is also responsible for the layout of the printed program.
She thanks Pfarrer Alexander Klein from Rohrbach, who makes the kitchen of the parish home available for cooking courses: "Without the cooperation with the parish community, no cooking courses could take place in Rohrbach. Thank you very much for that!".
Many language courses for all skill levels, integration courses for all nationalities, and current language courses for Ukrainian refugees support people who want to learn German to live and work here.
"Currently, ten language courses for Ukrainians are taking place in the business office, the cultural center, and the "Grüne Neune"", reports Marika Flierl. Participants are taught by native speakers or compatriots who speak German fluently.
Professional advancement is also supported through a comprehensive course offering in the areas of foreign languages, IT, and job training. Highlights include the three-tiered course "Professional Job Application", in which citizens of all professions can complete job application training.
In addition to courses for children aged 6 to 12 from all nationalities during the autumn holidays, parents can participate in a accompanying program (language courses, park visits, etc.). Children who want to improve their English skills have the opportunity to do so in a fun way through the course "When English is Fun".
A new setup for the repair café
The repair café brings together people of different generations to combat throwaway culture. They repair items once a month from the areas of electronics, bicycles, computers, welding, picture restoration, and sewing.
A special thank you goes to the Rotary Club St. Ingbert, which is supporting the repair café with a significant sum this year. With this money, new tools will be purchased.
Since mid-2022, the repair café has been taking place at the Ortsverwaltungsstelle Oberwürzbach, Hauptstr. 94.
