Saarbrücken. After unknown individuals forcibly opened an ATM installed on the grounds of the university hospital in Homburg last weekend and fled unidentified with their loot, the police are relying on the help of the public. The damage caused during the execution of the crime amounted to several tens of thousands of euros.
The investigators of the Property Crime Department currently assume that several individuals were involved in carrying out the act. They opened the vending machines installed in Administrative Building 11 of the University Hospital on the night of Saturday (06.08.2022) using tools and stole cash cassettes containing an as yet unknown amount of money. During the opening, the machine's security system was activated, causing all the cash inside to be stained red.
The analysis of the traces revealed that the burglars had already made extensive preparations in the administrative building on the previous day (Friday, 05.08.2022) between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM to secure easy access to the building later for the actual commission of the crime. Additionally, they parked their getaway vehicle on a forest path adjacent to Kirrberger Straße immediately before breaking into the machine.
Witnesses who have made suspicious observations that could be related to the preparatory actions on Friday (05.08.2022) or the actual commission of the crime on Saturday (06.08.2022) are asked to contact the criminal investigation duty service at the phone number 0681/962-2133.
Of interest to the investigators are also any information regarding the whereabouts of the colored banknotes as well as persons who have been noticed with unusual red stains on their clothing or hands.
