The energy crisis also does not stop at swimming pools, indoor pools, and spas. Against this background, Merziger Bäder GmbH launched an initial action plan for energy savings at DAS BAD on July 8, 2022. Additional measures were then implemented on August 4, 2022.
“In the past four weeks, we have given careful thought to where we see further potential for energy savings,” explains Thomas Klein, Managing Director of Merziger Bäder GmbH. “One of the biggest energy consumers in the pool are the two outdoor pools in the water and thermal world. In both pools, we have now reduced the water temperature by one degree each. However, both pools are still significantly warmer than any outdoor pool,” Klein shares. According to the assessment of the German Society for Swimming Facilities, this measure can save a large portion of a pool’s energy consumption.
“All other measures primarily do not directly affect our swimmers. Many of them serve only to save energy overnight,” adds Martin Siemon, Managing Director and Operations Manager of Merziger Bäder GmbH. “Due to the ongoing energy crisis, some pools have decided not to reopen at all. We are trying to prevent this so that swimming and sauna operations can continue for all guests, schools, and clubs,” Siemon points out the inevitable necessity to save energy at short notice to maintain the pool operations.
