At the Theobald-Hock-Haus in Kirkel-Limbach, a transatlantic connection will be made on Thursday, August 18, at 7 p.m.: Marie-Astrid Langer, the USA correspondent for the renowned Neue Zürcher Zeitung, will read from her 2021 book published by Suhrkamp Verlag about the American Vice President Kamala Harris.
Kamala Harris is the first woman and, moreover, the first non-white person in this powerful office. Her mother was from India, her father from the Caribbean; she was the Attorney General (an office that unites both the prosecutor's office and the justice department in one) in the most populous state of California before she was selected by then-presidential candidate Joe Biden as his running mate for the vice presidency. Joe Biden's ultimately convincing victory in the elections is also credited to Kamala Harris, who attracted many votes from Black American and Asian American voters. It will be interesting to see how her career progresses.
Marie-Astrid Langer comes from Homburg, attended the Johanneum grammar school, and received her training at the renowned Henri Nannen School of Journalism in Hamburg. After various stations, she now reports for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung from Silicon Valley in California. She will talk about her professional career as a journalist and her work as an observer of the American political scene, and of course also about her encounters with Kamala Harris and will read from her book. The event will be moderated by Dr. Bruno von Lutz, director of the German-American Institute Saarland. Afterwards, there will be plenty of time for the audience to ask Ms. Langer questions. She will also sign her book for interested parties. The Limbach bookstore Hahn will have a book table ready.
Admission is free. Registration is requested with the bookstore team at (06841) 171525 or info@buchhandlung-hahn.de.
