Saarbrücken (ots)
Early Sunday afternoon, a serious traffic accident occurred on Meerwiesertalweg in Saarbrücken involving two cars meeting each other. A 46-year-old driver was steering his BMW 316d from the merging lane of the L 252 onto the main road in the direction of the city when it suddenly collided with a VW Polo approaching from behind. As a result of the collision, the VW Polo overturned and ended up on its roof, so the 37-year-old female driver had to be rescued from the vehicle by the professional fire brigade. Among other things, the B-pillar of the VW Polo was cut open mechanically by the fire brigade. According to the current findings, the 37-year-old driver of the VW Polo was seriously—but fortunately not life-threateningly—injured. The driver of the BMW and his 41-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries in the accident. It is currently assumed that the BMW driver may have caused the accident by not exercising the necessary caution when entering the main road. Investigations are ongoing. Due to the accident and the associated emergency measures, Meerwiesertalweg was completely closed at the location for more than two hours.
