In view of the low pathogenicity of the current coronavirus variant, the FDP Saar advocates for an individual isolation period for those infected.
According to the deputy state chairman of the FDP, Dr. Helmut Isringhaus: „The current discussion about isolation regulations in the event of a corona infection should be guided in well-considered directions. Although Covid should not be regarded as a normal flu, isolation is not necessary in every case for more than 5 days – regardless of whether symptoms are present or not.
The isolation period for patients with COVID-19 should no longer be mandated by the government and must be an individual and medical decision in the future.
The duration of quarantine should also be considered differently depending on the type of workplace affected. I consider it unproblematic for infected individuals to return to work symptom-free if their workplace does not involve contact with vulnerable groups. Employees of hospitals, nursing homes, medical practices, and outpatient care services who have contact with vulnerable groups should wear a mask when symptom-free or be assigned to other areas without patient contact.
To better assess risks, PCR rapid tests should be introduced.
The FDP once again emphasizes the importance of vaccination and warns of discrepancies between the Minister of Health and the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO). Isringhaus:
“We need a well-considered course of action regarding vaccination recommendations, which is set by the Vaccination Commission. The Minister of Health must then implement these recommendations. He should keep any differing opinions to himself.”
