The energy-saving plans presented by Interior Minister Jost on behalf of the state government offer nothing fundamentally new. Rather, a loose collection of ideas is presented, which have long been standard in companies and private households. However, the data on the expansion of photovoltaic systems on public buildings ruthlessly exposes the failures of the state government over the past 20 years. "If out of around 800 state-owned buildings only 20 have so far been equipped with photovoltaic systems, this is also an admission of total failure by the former Environment Minister Jost in expanding renewable energies in Saarland," said Angelika Hießerich-Peter, deputy state chairwoman of the FDP Saar.
The goal of commissioning only 21 additional systems in the next three years is hardly ambitious. That would mean only 5% of the state-owned buildings are equipped. “We need an ambitious immediate program to expand photovoltaics on public buildings that opens up significantly more available space in the next three years. Only in this way will the state government be able to keep its election promises in the field of renewable energies.” The state government must set a good example here and thus motivate companies and private households to expand rooftop areas,” concluded Hießerich-Peter.
