Saarbrücken (ots)
Today (13.07.2022), a car parked obstructively in the area of Hafenstraße triggered a large police operation in Saarbrücken. Since the police observed suspicious substances and wiring inside the vehicle, extensive cordons had to be set up to ensure a safe inspection of the car for the public. A total of approximately 40 police officers were involved in the operation.

Around 12:00 PM, a citizen reported to the police a car obstructing traffic, parked in front of the fire department access of a hotel on Hafenstraße in Saarbrücken. During an inspection of the vehicle, officers from the Saarbrücken City Police Department found suspicious canisters and wiring inside the car. After an initial assessment of the situation, emergency forces blocked off Hafenstraße. The bomb disposal unit of the State Police Headquarters was involved in the operation.

After an initial assessment by the bomb disposal experts, who could not rule out a danger to third parties, extensive traffic restrictions were implemented in the Hafenstraße and Westspange areas. Several buildings had to be evacuated. Investigations by the bomb disposal team revealed that none of the substances present in the car posed a threat.

The identified canisters contained oils and fats. The exposed wires led into the trunk and are used to open the electronic tailgate.
