The municipality of Ensdorf is inviting – now for the fourth time – to a "Pedelec Safety Training" for senior citizens, but this time starting from 55 plus instead of 60 plus. This training is offered in cooperation with the Youth Traffic School Saarlouis to all interested senior citizens and will take place on
Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from 9:30 AM to approximately 11:00 AM in the parking lot next to the Ensdorf large sports hall.
Especially seniors in our society benefit from cycling with electric assistance. It is particularly great for routes with inclines and gives back a piece of mobility. Here, one can be especially sustainable, active, and self-determined in getting around while simultaneously promoting health and fitness. Nevertheless, despite all the advantages, caution is also necessary. Before taking an electric-assisted bike into traffic, there are several things to consider. Without experience and sufficient practice, riding a pedelec can quickly lead to uncontrollable and dangerous situations.
The number of accidents involving pedelecs, which have been recorded nationwide since 2014, is significantly higher compared to accidents with regular bicycles, especially among older people. In particular, individuals who have not ridden a bicycle for a long time are strongly advised by the German Road Safety Council to practice safe handling of the pedelec only under competent supervision.
The offered bicycle safety training is thus a great opportunity to receive various tips on riding techniques and to learn how to handle the bicycle. After brief theoretical introductions, practice sessions take place using your own bicycle. The focus is especially on starting off, braking, and cornering, but also on coordination and dexterity.
The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 10 people in total.
Participation is free of charge, but registration with the municipal administration is required. Registrations can be made either by phone or by email with Nadine Händle from the Ensdorf municipality, Tel. 06831/504-119 (mornings) or nhaendle@gemeinde-ensdorf.de.
Participants only need to bring their own bicycle and a helmet.
