A large selection of games with a fun guarantee attracted many children and their parents to Dirmingen last weekend for the traditional neighborhood festival of the Rothenberg School. The popular festival was once again organized in collaboration with the Kolping Family of Dirmingen. In the best summer weather, numerous visitors and clubs, including Member of Parliament Christian Petry, Werner André, Chairman of Lebenshilfe Neunkirchen, the responsible head of the school department, Sonja Alt, the First Deputy of the municipality of Eppelborn, Christian Ney, and local mayor Frank Klein, celebrated enthusiastically with the many guests on the Rothenberg.
The school community welcomed the guests at the beginning of the celebration with a welcome song. The program on the festival day offered a diverse range of activities and entertainment for all visitors, including a flea market, a book corner, various sales and craft booths, a guessing game, face painting for children, and a large bouncy castle. Additionally, the students themselves offered homemade crafts for sale. The support association was especially happy, as all proceeds from the event go to the Rothenberg School support association.
In 1974, the Rothenbergschule was founded as a private, state-recognized school for children with intellectual disabilities. The institution is operated by the Lebenshilfewerk im Kreis Neunkirchen gGmbH. For the current 61 students, trained specialist staff are available. These include educators with additional special education training, specialist teachers, special education teachers, integration assistants, administration, housekeeping, and janitors.
The First Deputy Mayor of the municipality of Eppelborn, Christian Ney, clearly enjoyed the visit to Dirmingen. He thanked the principal, Peter Engel, and his team for the truly successful neighborhood festival. "This event has become an indispensable part of the municipality of Eppelborn's calendar. It also helps to reduce apprehensions and prejudices between people with and without disabilities," he emphasized.
