On Friday at exactly 5 PM, it was finally time again: Mayor Nadine Backes tapped the first barrel, and with a loud fanfare from the mountain band and salute shots from the St. Ingbert shooting club, the St. Ingbert city festival was officially opened. For two years, the people of St. Ingbert had to do without their festival due to the coronavirus. The organizers, in particular, were therefore especially curious to see how visitors would receive this year's event.
The stage program was enormous: On the stages at Maxplatz, Wollbach parking lot/Bermuda Triangle, and Schmelzer parking lot, concerts of the most diverse genres were virtually heard "around the festival clock," ranging from brass music and beats from the 30s and 60s to rock music and current party trends, offering something for every musical taste. Also included in the program were dancing, singing, laughing, and clapping by the audience in front of the stages. Even the little ones were fully entertained with magic tricks and a play and adventure paradise. Culinary-wise, the people of St. Ingbert certainly know how to celebrate: non-alcoholic beverages, wine, and beer ensured no visitor went thirsty, and grilled sausage and Schwenker (marinated grilled pork), as well as international dishes, vegetarian and vegan options from distant countries, provided the necessary sustenance for the stomach. The partner cities St. Herblain, Radebeul, and Rhodt unter Rietburg had this year set up their booths at a new location at Wollbach parking lot/Swamp. The partners agreed: the new location is great, the booths were without exception well visited, and the representatives from the cities made good sales. In addition, numerous former St. Ingbert residents traveled especially for the festival. Many people from the central city, but also from the surrounding area, had made plans to meet. But some also encountered each other by chance with a joyful "Oh, you too here?" Almost like a big family reunion – a really big one, as a total of 30,000 visitors came to the colorful and loud St. Ingbert City Festival 2022 over the two days.
“We are very happy that the planned event concept has been fully successful,” says Ingo Nietert, head of the new organizing team. “In particular, the new stage areas, as well as the children’s program and the variety of stalls on offer, were very well received. The cooperation of everyone involved in the implementation went completely smoothly and professionally, allowing visitors to enjoy the festival carefree and without any serious incidents.” Also, Mayor Dr. Ulli Meyer, who could only listen to the sounds of the festival from home due to illness, is very pleased: “I am glad that people in St. Ingbert can come together and celebrate again. This is enormously important for social cohesion. My thanks go to the organizing team and all participants for the very good work.”
