All tennis enthusiasts can look forward to three top-class tennis tournaments in Merzig. In addition to the Saarland Youth Championships and an ITF junior tournament, the German Senior Team Championships will also be held at the tennis facility in the Merzig Saarwiesen.
The first sporting highlight will take place from July 6 to 16, 2022, at the tennis courts of TC schwarz-weiss Merzig. During this time, the Saarland Youth Championships will be held in Merzig. In 10 categories, a total of 128 girls and boys aged 9 to 16 will showcase their skills and compete for the coveted title of Saarland champion. Squad players, who will significantly raise the tournament's level, will also be participating. This is not surprising, as it is a J3 category tournament and thus one of the highest-ranked tournaments in Germany. For this reason, the state coach Andreas Spaniol and the association youth warden Daniela Ferring have already confirmed their attendance. All final matches will be held on July 16, 2022.
Tennis enthusiasts can look forward to a very special treat on September 3rd and 4th, 2022. The Saarland Tennis Association, together with TC Merzig, will host the German Team Championships in Senior Tennis. “In the age groups 30, 40, and 50, a highly ranked field of participants will come to Merzig, consisting solely of ranked players,” gives Edmund Brust, the senior tennis representative in Saarland, an insight into the tournament. Each team will field nine players in the following match-ups: two men’s singles, two women’s singles, one men’s doubles, one women’s doubles, and one mixed doubles. Birgit Kremmer, the chairwoman of TC Merzig, also expressed her delight at hosting the tournament, particularly citing the good infrastructure as the reason for being awarded this top event. “With the close proximity to the highway and the good accommodation options nearby, we offer ideal conditions to host the German Team Championships. In addition, our tennis facility has eleven courts available for this tournament over the weekend,” explains Kremmer, looking forward to the event with anticipation.
In the age group 30, teams from Saarland, Hesse, and Hamburg will compete against each other in group C. In the age group 40, teams from Saarland, Hesse, and Saxony will also face off in group C. The German team championships will be rounded off in the age group 50, where teams from Saarland, Saxony, and Middle Rhine will again compete in group C.
But the tennis year in Merzig is not over yet. From September 11 to 18, 2022, the champions of tomorrow will compete in the Saarwiesen at an International Tennis Federation junior tournament (ITF). A total of 48 participants each will compete in the categories of men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. Across the entire Federal Republic, a total of 13 such ITF tournaments will be held this year, with players from all over the world expected to participate in Merzig.
The organizers would welcome spectators at all tournaments.
