In recent years, children in particular had to cut back on many leisure activities due to the coronavirus. Therefore, the Children's and Youth Office of the city of Homburg has made a special effort to put together a varied program for children and young people this summer, ensuring there is something for everyone.
In the first week of the summer holidays, a climbing day takes place at the Fun Forest by the Jägersburger Weiher. On July 26th from 9 a.m., children and teenagers aged 11 to 16, who have a reach height of 1.70 m, can climb independently and with other interested participants. The group is supervised by experienced scouts from the climbing park. The event is planned to end at 2 p.m. The cost is ten euros per person.
On August 2nd and 3rd, it continues boldly: at 9 a.m. on both days, a self-assertion and self-defense course for 8- to 12-year-olds begins. It ends at 1 p.m. on both days and takes place in the gymnasium of the Luitpold School. Instructor Stefanie Bader introduces sensible behaviors for confident appearance, as well as concrete techniques for emergencies. The cost is 20 euros for both days.
On August 12th, the whole family with children aged six and above is invited to the bat walk at the Jägersburger Castle Pond to experience the twilight-active animals in their natural habitat and learn some new things under the expert guidance of Markus Kees. The tour starts at 9 PM and ends around 10 PM. There is a participation fee of three euros per participant. Children cannot participate alone.
From August 8th to 12th and from August 16th to 19th, this year's children's holiday fun will take place for young people aged 6 to 13, this year at the Bruchhof elementary school. Excursions are planned in both weeks, e.g., to the Gerhardsbrunn sanctuary and the Saarschleife treetop path. Various workshops and activities are planned on site in Bruchhof. Further information is available by phone.
Care begins each day at 8 a.m. and ends around 4:30 p.m. Participation costs 80 euros for August 8 to 12 (5 days) and 65 euros for August 16 to 19 (4 days). The weeks can be booked individually. Lunch is provided by the organizer in the form of a hot meal, breakfast must be brought by the participants themselves, and drinks and snacks are provided.
There are also single events planned for the last two weeks of the holidays, each for children and teenagers between 6 and 16 years old: On August 22nd, there will be a trip to the Senckenberg Natural History Museum in Frankfurt, where participants can explore the amazing world of dinosaurs, including excavation and research workshops. Costs amount to six euros.
On August 26th, there is a trip to the Tripsdrill Adventure Park, the ride costs 20 euros. It is especially popular with action enthusiasts. And on August 30th, a great day is planned at the Luisenpark in Mannheim, with a cost of six euros. Relaxing, experiencing, and cooling off are the order of the day there, and above all, discovering new things.
The care is provided by employees of the Children and Youth Office as well as qualified, volunteer caregivers. The last three offerings take place in cooperation with the Caritas Children's Center Erbach and are jointly supervised.
