The pedestrian zone in St. Ingbert is becoming more colorful and floral. This is thanks to about 30 new flower boxes, of which six have been delivered so far. The rest will be provided after the city festival. The initiator of this action is the association Handel und Gewerbe St. Ingbert e. V. (HGSI), with the initial funding largely supported by the city of St. Ingbert. "It has long been important to us to bring more flowers into the city to make the city's appearance even more inviting," says the association's chairman Nico Ganster.
Thus, the association, with Wolfgang Blatt serving as the contact person for business owners, set out to find "flower sponsors," shops that take care of the plants in the containers in front of their stores, tending to them, watering them, and replanting them twice a year. The response was great; so far, about 25 St. Ingbert businesspeople have taken on such sponsorships. Further support for the project came from the Obi hardware store, whose employees advised on the selection of containers made from recycled plastic and sold them at a reduced price. Björn Martin from Blumenhaus Martin also provides his services and both the initial creative planting as well as the regular replanting at a supportive price. Currently, all containers are planted with red dipladenias and white-multicolored calibrachoas; in autumn, seasonally appropriate plant sets will be available.
In addition to the stone flower tubs planted seasonally three times a year by the city, the pedestrian zone will now shine with greater floral splendor. On the occasion of the installation of the first tubs, local head Irene Kaiser praised: “Thank you for this wonderful initiative and the acquisition. Every flower that blooms and every piece of greenery makes our biosphere city more attractive for citizens and visitors. Furthermore, the flowers provide nectar for insects and slightly improve the microclimate as well.
