Cycling with electric assistance is gaining more and more supporters, and especially since the Corona pandemic, the number of e-bikes sold has been increasing. Unfortunately, the number of injured and even fatally injured persons is also rising in contrast.
Before taking an electric-assisted bike onto the road, there are a few things to consider. Without experience and sufficient practice, riding an e-bike can quickly lead to dangerous situations. Many e-bike riders underestimate the speed and weight of electric bicycles. Both together result in different handling that requires a different and anticipatory riding style. Especially older people have problems with e-bikes, as the distribution of accident numbers across different age groups shows. Statistics prove a significantly increased risk of accidents among e-bike riders over 50!
For this reason, the municipality of Kleinblittersdorf, in cooperation with the State Police Directorate LPP 131 (mobile youth traffic school/traffic prevention/traffic safety counseling), offers a safety training course for interested e-bike riders (beginners or riders with little experience). The course is explicitly intended for older people as well. After a brief theoretical introduction, participants go straight into practice. The trainers introduce the participants to the safe handling of the e-bike in about two and a half hours. Training focuses especially on mounting and dismounting, starting, including on hills, braking, and cornering.
As the number of participants is limited, registration is required. Participation is free of charge and at your own risk – participants only need to bring their own e-bike and helmet.
The 3rd safety training for e-bike riders in our community will take place on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from 5:30 PM at the Sucé-sur-Erdre square in Bliesransbach.
