Once again, a varied module came to an end for the participants of the project "Grenzerfahrungen 2022." They spent a full 4 days at the idyllic 4-star campsite in Walsheim, located in the heart of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The experience weekend, from Thursday, 16.06.2022 to Sunday, 19.06.2022, was organized by the team of the Multigenerational House (MGH) of the city of Püttlingen, who took care of the smooth setup of the campsite as well as the daily catering. The team was supported by numerous dedicated volunteers who together arranged a diverse supporting program. Thursday morning started for some attendees with a 77-kilometer bike tour from Püttlingen via Göttelborn to Walsheim, where the other travelers and the MGH team were already waiting with the campsite set up. In perfect weather in the afternoon, the adjacent outdoor pool provided a welcome refreshment while the MGH team prepared the communal dinner. The next morning, the cyclists set off on their tours shortly after breakfast. While one group cycled from Walsheim to the Niederwürzbacher Weiher, another group took the 70-kilometer European Mill Bike Trail. At the same time, the remaining participants explored the baroque town of Blieskastel, starting from the former parade ground of the Counts of von der Leyen, through the narrow streets of the old town up to the castle hill, and finally stopping at the pilgrim's rest of the pilgrimage monastery.
In the evening, the MGH team was already waiting for the travelers with the preheated grill, creating a cozy end to the day. Saturday morning brought another hike, this time along the picturesque orchid trail in Gersheim. With temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius and bright sunshine, the afternoon offered the perfect way to cool down: The MGH team started a water fight with squirt guns and water balloons, in which no one stayed dry. The group spent the remaining hours together in the tent camp until late in the evening, preparing for the upcoming departure. Sunday morning arrived early for everyone. Breakfast had to be eaten, backpacks filled with enough provisions, and the entire tent camp dismantled. Thanks to the support of all the experienced border crossers, the breakdown went smoothly, and the cyclists were able to start their return trip from Walsheim via Saargemünd to Püttlingen an hour earlier than planned. In total, they covered 251 kilometers and 1910 meters of elevation over the weekend – a remarkable achievement in temperatures between 30 and 38 degrees Celsius. Upon arriving at the MGH, the participants agreed: This weekend was once again a unique experience, overcoming both geographical and physical limits.
