Since the energy supply in this country is heavily dependent on Russian gas, oil, and coal, energy prices have soared enormously since the beginning of the war against Ukraine. Furthermore, it must be expected that Russia will further reduce the remaining deliveries, thereby worsening the situation even more.
Against this background, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Robert Habeck has called on the population to reduce energy consumption in order to minimize dependence on Russia.
The district town of Merzig also wants to contribute to this and lead by example. A few weeks ago, Mayor Marcus Hoffeld established the internal administrative working group on energy and climate protection to examine where the district town of Merzig can save energy. All consumption of the district town of Merzig is to be scrutinized for possible reductions in energy use and implemented wherever possible.
In order for the district town of Merzig to manage this task, close cooperation between the various departments and specialist areas is necessary. Therefore, employees from the individual departments are integrated into the different steps of applying energy and climate protection management. “For this purpose, we consult together in the Energy and Climate Protection working group. We have already gradually reduced our energy consumption over the past years. In the working group, we discuss together how we can strengthen this trend in the future in light of the geopolitical situation,” explains Mayor Marcus Hoffeld.
In addition, the management of Merziger Bäder GmbH is currently also considering how energy can be saved there and is currently examining various alternatives.
