Dementia is the umbrella term for all brain diseases associated with a – usually slowly progressing – impairment of cognitive functions. Dementia is one of the most common diseases in old age. Almost every tenth person over 65 in Saarland suffers from dementia. The trend is increasing! Care for dementia patients at home is associated with a very high burden for the caregiving relatives. On June 15th, Mayor Jörg Wilhelmy, together with the head of the State Dementia Office in Saarland, Andreas Sauder, opened the traveling exhibition "Dementia – What then?" in the presence of the Disability Commissioner Franz Leinenbach, the Senior Safety Advisor Hans Fels, representatives from the Saarlouis district, and members of the municipal council in the Ensdorf town hall. The exhibition provides information about the disease and presents information and support services for those affected and their families. The exhibition also aims to raise public awareness about the topic of dementia. It can still be seen in the Ensdorf town hall (1st floor) until June 30th.
