Due to the good weather conditions over the weekend, the Saarbrücken City Police Station had to respond to numerous operations in the well-visited city center by pedestrians, especially on the evening of 11.06.2022. Resistance and attacks against police officers were also among the incidents.
At 11:30 p.m., there was a high-profile operation in the area of the Saarwiesen below the State Theatre. The local police station had previously received a report that an aggressive individual was present in the aforementioned area, actively seeking confrontation with other passersby. The location was immediately approached by several units of the Saarbrücken City Police Department. On site, the 23-year-old in question was found, first verbally attacking an opponent and then striking him in the face with punches. To prevent further attacks, the disruptor had to be controlled on the ground and subsequently restrained there by several police officers. During this, the German citizen resisted the measures vehemently. In the course of the resistance, the disruptor deliberately tried to grab a holstered firearm from an officer and snatch it from its holster. This could only be prevented with considerable exertion of force by the officers involved. During the operation, the companions of the disruptor showed a solidarity effect and also attempted to interfere with the official action and free the accused. As a result, further measures had to be taken against the companions. A 25-year-old man in particular displayed extremely aggressive and provocative behavior, which ultimately escalated to blows aimed at the officers involved. This disruptor also had to be restrained on site to prevent further attacks. In doing so, the man likewise offered vigorous resistance, so that the resistance could only be overcome by the use of a distance electroshock device. During the operation, a police officer was slightly injured by a blow to the face. The entire course of the operation was observed by several bystanders present and increasingly recorded on mobile phones. The accused were subsequently transported to the police station for further measures. Criminal proceedings were initiated for bodily harm committed, as well as resistance and assault against enforcement officers.
In the early morning at 5:19 a.m., there was another operation due to a rampaging person on Bahnhofstraße in the city center, in front of a local nightclub. Upon the arrival of the units on site, the heavily intoxicated foreign citizen suddenly began hitting the hoods of the patrol cars with his fists. As any attempt to address the aggressor had no effect, he had to be restrained on site. The disruptor offered significant resistance against this, and transporting him to the station was only possible through the utmost physical effort by the officers involved. Due to the level of intoxication of the disruptor, as well as to prevent further crimes, he was initially taken into custody. A criminal investigation due to resistance against law enforcement officers was initiated. However, the identity of the suspect is still unknown, as the man was not carrying any identification documents and provided no personal information. After consultation with the Saarbrücken public prosecutor's office, an application for an arrest warrant will be submitted to the Saarbrücken district court due to a suspected flight risk. The suspect will be presented to the Saarbrücken district court shortly.
