On Friday morning, June 10th, at around 05:50, a traffic accident occurred on the A8 motorway in Merzig when a 49-year-old woman from Luxembourg ran off the road near the Schwemlingen junction with her car and collided with the guardrail. As a result, the driver lost control and collided multiple times significantly with the guardrail. Although the driver remained uninjured, her passenger suffered minor bruises. During the subsequent accident investigation, it was discovered that the driver of the accident vehicle was heavily intoxicated, which led to a blood sample being taken and the confiscation of her driver's license. The woman's totaled vehicle had to be towed away, and the severely damaged guardrails had to be secured, causing additional traffic disruptions. Besides the accident under the influence of alcohol, the woman is now also facing charges for insulting the deployed police officers.
