Almost exactly two years ago, Eppelborn’s mayor Andreas Feld and the local head of Humes, Karl Barrois, visited Haus Rech. At that time, aside from a few small finishing touches in and around Haus Rech in Humes, the major renovation and restoration work had been completed. The old house at "In der Humes 32" has become a real gem. Now, at last, the ceremonial opening and handover to the municipality, which had been structurally ready for two years, can take place.
Quietly and discreetly, the parties involved agreed, the heartfelt project of Graciela and Thomas Bruch should not be handed over to its new purpose. Now the actors have agreed to hand over the Rech House as part of an open day on Friday, June 17, 2022, from 12:00 PM. With a lot of love and dedication, the building in the center of Humes was extensively renovated by the Margot Bruch Foundation St. Wendel.
Attractive from the outside, the completely renovated building immediately captivates visitors upon entry. The blue and white tiles, sandstone masonry, plastered walls, and indirect lighting already make the ground floor an experience. Above all, the vaulted cellar impressed Mayor Feld during the tour. Also located on the ground floor and thus accessible without barriers is the office of the local mayor in the Rech House. Visitors can reach the upper floor via a staircase. Here, a large room has been created, with a wooden floor chosen to match the exposed roof beams. A fireplace room and a gallery complete the range of rooms. To enable people with disabilities to reach the upper floor, there is an elevator attached to the building. In a separate building next to the former farmhouse are the restrooms and the heat pump that heats the house. This shows an impressive interplay of old and new.
The house was built in 1757 by Peter Joseph Rech, the great-grandfather of Graciela Bruch's mother-in-law. The young teacher was instrumental in the construction of the parish church. But his son, Dr. Josef Rech, as well as his grandson Dr. Maximilian Rech, district administrator of the Ottweiler district, also helped shape Humes.
For Thomas Bruch, it was the first visit in two years since the purchase, and his wife supervised the construction work. The necessary waterproofing work was particularly extensive; a drainage system had to be installed and extensive underpinning work carried out to keep the house dry.
“For us as a municipality, the Rech house is a real stroke of luck. The property has been beautifully restored and will provide the backdrop for many special occasions in the future. I am very much looking forward to the joint inauguration celebration. Then the citizens can see for themselves the successful renovation,” says Andreas Feld.
INFO: The ceremony for the opening and inauguration of Haus Rech will take place on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 12:00 PM. Afterwards, citizens will have the opportunity to get to know Haus Rech during an open house until 6:00 PM. Catering will be provided.
