Electric-assisted cycling is gaining more and more supporters, and especially since the Corona pandemic, the number of e-bikes sold has also been increasing. Unfortunately, the number of injured and even fatally injured people is rising in contrast.
Before venturing into road traffic with an electrically assisted bike, there are a few things to consider. Without experience and sufficient practice, riding an e-bike can quickly lead to dangerous situations. Many e-bike riders underestimate the speed and weight of the electric bicycles. Both result in different riding behavior that requires a different and more anticipatory way of riding. Older people in particular have problems with e-bike riding, as the distribution of accident numbers across different age groups shows. Statistics prove a significantly increased risk of accidents among e-bike riders over 50 years old.
For this reason, the senior safety advisors of the municipality of Quierschied/Fischbach, Ms. Gabi Pitz and Mr. Hans-Werner Rech, are offering a safety training course for interested e-bike riders this year, in cooperation with the state police department LLP 131 (mobile youth traffic school/traffic prevention/road safety advice). (Beginners or riders with little practice). After a brief theoretical introduction, it goes straight into practice. The training focuses especially on mounting and dismounting, starting, including on hills, braking, and cornering behavior.
As the number of participants is limited to 10 people (no children or adolescents), registration is absolutely necessary. Participation is free of charge and at one’s own risk – participants must bring their own e-bike and a helmet.
The safety training will take place on Friday, 15.07.22 from 6:30 PM, in the schoolyard of the elementary school in Fischbach.
