The Blieskastel Senior Advisory Board continues its series of informational events on topics that particularly interest older and disabled people and their relatives. As the Disability Commissioner Wolfgang Griffel and the Deputy Mayor responsible for senior and disabled affairs, Guido Freidinger, report, Susanne Fehrens from the care support center in Homburg presented her tasks and work at the last senior advisory board meeting, which, as always, was held publicly. Important for everyone interested: from now on, the care advisors will once again offer in-person consultations, either at the support center premises in Homburg or on Wednesdays also at the House of Citizens (Town Hall 3) in Blieskastel. Upon request, consultation sessions can also once again take place directly at the homes of those in need of care.
Ms. Fehrenz explained: "A loss of independence in daily life, whether due to dementia, a fall, a chronic illness, or other reasons, can completely change your life. There is a wide range of support services available. But which ones are the right ones, and how do I access them? Since 2009, there have been a total of 8 care support centers in Saarland, located in all districts and in the Saarbrücken Regional Association. These centers provide confidential, unbiased, and free information and advice on all matters related to care. In the Saarpfalz district, the care support center is located in the district administration building in Homburg. Advice can be given over the phone, during a consultation hour, at the office in Homburg, or at your home. Just as people are different, such a conversation is also tailored individually. It may involve assistance with submitting applications to obtain benefits from long-term care insurance. Or, if there is an existing care level, it may concern the utilization of these benefits, for example through regional care services. Other topics might include home modifications, the provision of aids, dementia care, specialized outpatient palliative care, supplementary services, or anything else. The primary focus is on the options available to relieve the burden on those in need of care and their caregiving relatives, in order to prevent overload. Even when there is no (or a low level of) care dependency, there are still measures that can make living at home easier and safer, such as "meals on wheels," emergency call devices, household help services, shopping and escort services. Equally important, especially regarding loneliness in old age, is the maintenance of social contacts and (as far as possible) physical and mental activities. The care support center is also there to provide advice and assistance in these matters."
The consultation hours are held regularly in:
- Blieskastel every 4th Wednesday of the month from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM,
- Gersheim on every 2nd Tuesday of the month from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm,
