The music series “Music in St. Marien” kicks off the 2022 season on Sunday, June 19, 2022, with an organ concert.
Due to the closure of the St. Marien parish church, the concert has been moved to the branch church “Seven Sorrows of Mary” in Michelbach. The Mayer organ there impresses with its soft yet powerful voices that unfold beautifully in the church space.
The organ concert will be performed by the Slovak, multiple award-winning organist and composer Pavol Valasek (born 1993), who is considered one of the most distinguished organists of his generation in his homeland. He studied organ at the Conservatory in Zilina and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava, where he completed his bachelor’s degree in organ in 2019. Since the winter semester of 2019, he has been pursuing a master’s degree in concert organ performance with Prof. Andreas Rothkopf at the Hochschule für Musik in Saarbrücken.
He has been a semifinalist in several international competitions (including Lausanne, Hamburg, Katowice) and worked from 2014 to 2017 as an organist with the Symphonic Orchestra of Slovak Radio and the National Male Choir (SZSU).
Pavol Valasek performs regularly both domestically and internationally and gives concerts with various soloists, choirs, and ensembles such as the Bach Collegium Saarbrücken and the State Chamber Orchestra Zilina.
At the Michelbach concert, he will play works by Johann Sebastian and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, and Flor Peeters, as well as one of his own compositions (Allegro Ostinato).
Admission to the concert is 7.00 euros.
