On 27.05.2022 at around 16:09, the police station St. Ingbert was informed of a severely injured dog in the area "Im Alten Tal" in 66386 St. Ingbert-Rohrbach. The dog was apparently seriously injured by a wild boar that had gone wild while defending its piglets, which was confirmed by several witnesses.
After requesting a thermal imaging camera and drone via the fire departments of St. Ingbert and Kirrberg, the animal was located together with the piglets in reed approximately 1.60 m high. The wild boar's shelter with its piglets was situated in the immediate vicinity of residential areas around the streets Im Alten Tal, Spieser Straße, Mühlstraße, fenced between the streets, posing a constant danger to residents, animals, and walkers. The requested hunting tenant attempted to drive the animals away by firing several shots of birdshot ammunition. However, these attempts failed.
Due to the inability to immobilize the animal, special police forces had to be called in, who subsequently had to shoot the wild animal from the fire department's aerial ladder truck in St. Ingbert using special ammunition, without causing significant pain to the animal. There was no damage to uninvolved persons or animals as a result of the firearm use or the wild boar. The total operation lasted 4.5 hours.
Nothing is currently known about the health condition of the dog injured by the wild boar.
