This year, there will be an integration course for Ukrainian refugees in Schmelz. The social worker of the municipality of Schmelz, Alicia Schneider, who was appointed as the refugee officer, realized this idea together with TERTIA Berufsförderung GmbH & Co. KG from Saarlouis.
Through this course offering, the municipality of Schmelz is considered one of the pioneers in the district of Saarlouis.
The course will take place in the rooms of the old Hüttersdorf school, Berliner Straße 26, in the space of the German Red Cross. The special feature of this integration course - throughout the entire course participation, childcare for the participants' children is ensured in the TL Hüttersdorf room by pedagogically trained staff from TERTIA Berufsförderung GmbH & Co. KG.
The integration course consists of the language course and the orientation course and lasts for 8 months. Through the language course, participants become confident in using the German language. They learn the vocabulary for all important areas and situations of everyday life in Germany, such as housing, work, and interactions with authorities. It also promotes written skills. In the orientation course, participants get to know Germany and receive information about laws and politics, culture, and history.
In a placement test, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees determines whether participants must complete the entire language course or can start at an advanced level. The course ends with a written and oral language exam ("German Test for the Profession") and a test related to the orientation course. By passing the exam, participants achieve language level B1 and receive the "Integration Course Certificate," which entitles them to apply for naturalization.
The costs for the integration course are covered by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. Registrations were already made during the information sessions. The 18 available spots were filled within a very short time.
