A bit of courage was definitely required: eight children participated in the Lesedino reading competition at the city library, seven girls and one boy. These children had won the reading competition at their respective schools, the elementary schools of Mandelbachtal, Reinheim, Blieskastel, and St. Ingbert. For the first round, each child brought their favorite book and read a passage from it. That was almost easy, as the children could practice this part extensively. The performances were excellent – all the children were able to read brilliantly! But the nervousness between the bookshelves was still palpable. After a short break, the second task followed: a short text from an unknown book had to be read aloud. “Ausgerechnet Adelheid” by Sabine Ludwig, a funny story about school, a stuck teacher, a missing beetle, and a great friendship.
“The text is suitable for elementary school students but not easy,” confirmed jury member Jürgen Bost, spokesperson for the St. Ingbert Literature Forum. Reading before the jury, which alongside Jürgen Bost included Ruth Rouselange (Friedrich-Bödecker-Kreis), Jörg Sämann (Ministry of Education), and Ingo Nietert (Head of the Department of Culture), was truly a challenge. All the children also did this task excellently. “The decision was really difficult for us. As winners of the competition at their respective schools, the children all read wonderfully,” confirmed Ingo Nietert.
The winner is Clara Schaumlöffel from the Südschule. She will participate in the state competition in Saarbrücken on July 11, 2022. St. Ingbert is keeping its fingers crossed!
