The renovation of the Illtalhalle is also nearing completion in terms of funding. As part of the ZIP federal project "Struggle for Future and Integration," the final inspection by the federal government took place last week – with only one inspector, Mr. Lukan from PTJ in Berlin, able to attend due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Deputy Hans-Dieter Schwarz welcomed the visit to the Illtalhalle on behalf of the mayor and was pleased about the tour at the conclusion of the ZIP project. This marked the completion of a project that lasted more than five years and cost five million euros. All those involved demonstrated creativity and spontaneity, as well as flexibility and perseverance throughout the entire duration, starting with the unconventional application process in autumn 2015, through the difficult period of conflicting fire protection requirements, to the redesign and approval of the construction measures in 2018; and finally beyond that, as the work only really began then. A year later, they were disrupted again, this time by the pandemic, which accompanied the renovation until its completion in spring 2021. The federal government had contributed a great deal of patience to the success of the renovation project so far.
Then the deputy handed over the leadership to local mayor Guido Jost, who knows the hall like the back of his hand. For technical questions, the designing architect Thomas Hepp and the two project managers, architect Kristina Winkler from the Hepp and Zenner office and the head of the building department Thorsten Feiß, were available. For financial questions, treasurer Christoph Schmidt was on hand. Other administrative staff and the invited press extended the circle of attendees to thirteen people, which in this case is a lucky number. This was signaled because the final accounting from the federal side is close to the maximum possible funding amount of €3.6 million. Thus, the municipality can still expect a considerable subsidy.
A beautiful construction task with challenging conditions has been completed, and the result left everyone who was on site for the inspection more than satisfied.
