Nature conservation officers work on a voluntary basis and provide professional, independent advice to cities and municipalities on all matters related to nature conservation. They must be consulted on planning and measures affecting nature conservation. Furthermore, they assist the full-time nature wardens in Saarland in their work.
Until 2007, the lower nature conservation authorities appointed the nature conservation officers; since then, the responsibility has been with the respective cities and municipalities.
The position of the voluntary nature conservation officer in the Illingen district of Hirzweiler had been vacant for over three years. It is all the more gratifying that Nicole Klemm has agreed to take on this role. After the Hirzweiler local council decided in favor of the applicant, Ms. Klemm received her certificate of appointment from Mayor Dr. Armin König on May 3, 2022, during a small ceremony. The deputy local mayor of Hirzweiler, Michael Kraemer, also congratulated the new nature conservation officer on her honorary office.
