As part of the "Saarbrücken Europe Days," the Saarbrücken Filmhouse will screen three films nominated for the LUX Audience Award from Saturday to Monday, May 21 to 23. The events are hosted by the Europe Direct Saarbrücken Center in cooperation with the Filmhouse and the European Parliament Liaison Office in Berlin.
European cinema with current relevance
On Saturday, May 21, at 4 p.m., the program begins with the German-Austrian feature film "Große Freiheit." It won a Jury Prize at the 74th Cannes International Film Festival. The film "Quo vadis, Aida?" continues the series on Sunday, May 22, at 4 p.m. Cinema guests can watch the war drama set in Bosnia in the original language with German subtitles.
On Monday, May 23rd, at 5:30 PM, the Filmhaus will present the work "Flee." The animated documentary film premieres in Saarbrücken. It was nominated for an Oscar in three categories. The film tells the true story of an Afghan refugee under the pseudonym Amin Nawabi. The Filmhaus will show it in the original language with German subtitles. After the screening, the audience can discuss the film and the topics of flight, migration, and integration with panel guests. Among those represented on the panel are Dr. Katarina Barley, Vice-President of the European Parliament, and Dr. Doris Pack, former member of the European Parliament and long-time coordinator of the LUX Film Prize, as well as one of the filmmakers from the production team.
Vote for the LUX Audience Award
Following the film screenings, the audience can vote for their favorite film among the nominees until Wednesday, May 25, helping it win the LUX Audience Award 2022. Participants have the chance to attend the award ceremony at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday, June 8.
