On the traffic safety day sicher.mobil.leben 2022 yesterday, the State Police Headquarters checked 1,345 road users. A total of around 160 police officers were deployed at approximately 50 checkpoints nationwide.
In addition to 1,199 car drivers, the police also checked drivers of trucks, e-scooters, bicycles, and motorcycles. Overall, the officers detected 185 traffic violations. Among other things, the police initiated 15 criminal proceedings for driving without a license. In five cases, due to unfitness to drive, the continuation of the journey was prohibited and the vehicle key was confiscated.
In the Dillingen area, the officers stopped a car occupied by a family of four, including two small children. It turned out that the driver was under the influence of drugs. Additionally, the police found around 90 grams of cannabis and 15 grams of amphetamine in the car. The man was not allowed to continue driving. A doctor took a blood sample from him. The police notified the youth welfare office and the driver's license authority.
During a traffic stop in Völklingen, the officers encountered another family (father, mother, 18-year-old daughter). Here too, the driver was under the influence of drugs and did not have a valid driver's license. In addition, he gave the officers false personal information. The passenger of the intoxicated driver was carrying 4 grams of amphetamine. In this case as well, the police officers prohibited further driving, ordered a blood test, and informed the youth welfare office and the driver licensing authority about the incident.
In addition to the established checkpoints, there was also a joint information booth of the traffic safety advisory service and the contact police of the Saarbrücken City Police Inspection in the area of Saarbrücken Central Station. There, citizens could receive advice on topics such as the use of pedelecs and e-scooters. Many passers-by took advantage of the offer.
