Mayor Uwe Conradt opened the window display exhibition "Dudweiler Offensive" in the pedestrian zone in Dudweiler on Thursday, May 5.
The trade association ProDORF e.V. (DORF stands for "Service Offensive for Regional Progress") and the state capital Saarbrücken are presenting current projects and developments in the Dudweiler district in digital picture frames and on display boards in various shop windows in the center of Dudweiler until Thursday, July 21.
The background is a so-called integrated urban development concept (ISEK) for the center of Dudweiler, which the state capital is currently developing together with the offices werk-plan and KOBRA. The area is to be upgraded with the help of the concept. Once it is completed, the state capital intends to apply for funding from urban development subsidies for the corresponding measures. This is expected to be the case in May of next year.
Mayor Conradt: "In Dudweiler, an incredible amount is happening right now. New apartments are being built, among other places at Anger and in the Rathausblock. Globus has taken over the former real market, which will significantly strengthen local supply. Construction work is currently in full swing at the site. The former areas of the Schwamm company and the adjacent plots are being used for the DudoPark project: an innovative start-up center is growing there. Several investors are engaged in Dudweiler because they see how much future the district holds. With the showcase exhibition, we want to demonstrate how diverse the urban development projects running for the further development of Dudweiler are."
Participation of the citizens
In the display window next to the Rosenperfumery (Saarbrücker Straße 258), thematic maps related to the ISEK are exhibited, showing its current processing status. They present, for example, the identified weaknesses and strengths of the district concerning social infrastructure, education and culture, as well as the economy. Citizens can share ideas and comments on the thematic maps online via the ISEK Dudweiler website at www.saarbruecken.de/isek-dudweiler.
Public participation is a key component in the development of the ISEK, as the people of Dudweiler know best what they like about their district and in which areas changes are necessary. Therefore, businesses, property owners, representatives of clubs and local interest groups, as well as the citizens of Dudweiler, are involved.
In October of last year, the kick-off event for citizen participation in the ISEK took place. Since then, there have been several additional meetings on various topics such as traffic and mobility, art and culture, economy, open spaces, nature and climate protection.
Background
An ISEK (Integrated Urban Development Concept) is a spatially related concept within the framework of urban development funding that identifies problem areas for a specific region and addresses them in a results-oriented manner. For example, the concept considers social, urban planning, cultural, economic, and ecological areas of action and derives solution-oriented measures from them. Citizens are involved in the process. A long-term concept emerges from projects that can be implemented with funding. The ISEK forms the basis for a period of around ten years to apply for funding for the implementation of concrete measures.
