A resident of the Losheim district of Britten reported to the Nordsaarland police station on April 19, 2022, at 10:00 PM that two high-quality bicycles had been stolen from his garage. During the crime scene investigation, it was found that the theft, carried out by a woman, had been recorded by video surveillance. The investigating police officers recognized the thief, a 41-year-old woman currently living in Britten. The woman's apartment was not opened despite the presence of people inside. The duty public prosecutor ordered the immediate search of the apartment and the basement room. After the police forcibly opened the basement rooms, they found and arrested at 11:30 PM a 31-year-old homeless man wanted by warrant.
The suspect had hidden there after recognizing the police officers. The man was wanted for hit and run, endangering road traffic, driving without a license, violating the compulsory insurance law, and driving under the influence. In one of the basement rooms, the officers conducting the search also found one of the stolen bicycles, which alone was worth 3000 euros. This was then handed over to the victim in accordance with prosecutorial instructions.
During the search, the officers found small quantities of narcotics on the detainee and the female thief. Additionally, they seized several license plates in the basement, the origins of which are now to be investigated. Finally, the police officers noticed that a false insurance sticker was attached to a light motorcycle parked in front of the house, a red Piaggio with an engine capacity of 125 cubic centimeters. The arrested man had the key to the security lock attached to the motorcycle. Corresponding criminal proceedings will be initiated against the woman and the man.
The detainee will be brought before the responsible judge on April 20, 2022, for the issuance of the arrest warrant. Until then, he will remain in the custody of the Nordsaarland Police Station. The Nordsaarland Police Station requests information about the whereabouts of the second stolen bicycle, which has not yet been found, at the telephone number 06871 90010. It is a mountain bike of the brand Canyon in blue-black color.
