AG FamilienZirkel: Family, Youth, and Educational Support in Merzig
Mayor Marcus Hoffeld, together with Heike Wagner, the head of the Family and Social Affairs Department of the district town Merzig, visited AG FamilienZirkel Merzig. The facility manager of AG FamilienZirkel, Sabine Maier-Brossette, reported on the diverse work and challenges involved in the daily work and also introduced the new deputy facility manager, Kerstin Seiwert, as well as the multi-professional team of FamilienZirkel, consisting of social pedagogues, psychologists, teachers, and educators.
As a recognized independent provider within the framework of child and youth welfare, AG FamilienZirkel supports children, adolescents, and families in the form of outpatient educational assistance (social-pedagogical family assistance and educational support) in various difficult life situations. AG is represented at a total of three locations in Merzig, Saarlouis, and Trier with over 200 employees and carries out assignments from youth welfare offices and the state office.
Within the scope of outpatient educational assistance in the form of social-pedagogical family assistance, AG offers, for example, support for parents with educational questions in difficult family situations or in coping with everyday life. The form of educational support focuses more on the difficulties children and adolescents have with themselves, their family, or their social environment when challenges in social integration exist or developmental and behavioral abnormalities are present. The children and adolescents are accompanied individually on their path in cooperation with the parental home, daycare centers, and schools. Both forms aim to improve family coexistence, relationships within the family, as well as the healthy development of children and adolescents.
Another important part of Familienzirkel’s work is school integration. Here, the staff accompany children and adolescents who need support with integration in school due to impairments, so that they can participate well and independently in everyday school life and find a place within the school community.
