Press Release: 45 Years Kunstverein Saar: Anniversary Exhibition Opened in the Town Hall Gallery

With a well-attended vernissage on Thursday evening, August 27, the exhibition "45 Years Kunstverein Saar e. V." was opened in the Town Hall Gallery St. Ingbert. Until Friday, October 16, 27 artists of the association will show 48 works in oil, acrylic, and watercolor painting as well as photography.

The Deputy Mayor for Culture of the City of St. Ingbert, Albrecht Hauck, welcomed the numerous guests and emphasized the importance of the Town Hall Gallery as an exhibition venue: “It is always important when you walk through here and see new pictures every three months: That is inspiring.”

Kunstverein Saar is presenting its artworks for the first time as an artist group in the Town Hall Gallery. Individual members had previously shown solo exhibitions there, including Margit Daut, Dorothee Willie, and the long-standing chairman Theodor Fischer.

Diversity of Techniques and Motifs

The exhibition combines small-format as well as large-scale acrylic paintings, modern and abstract works as well as realistic depictions of landscapes, buildings, flowers, and people. Among the eye-catchers are Juliane Rabel’s peonies in the entrance area, graphic works by Detlef Koch, and the spatula technique paintings by Dagmar Berger, which make mountain landscapes appear three-dimensional. Photorealistic oil paintings are contributed by the long-standing member Günther Baus. Photographic art is also represented with two works by Rita Naumann.

From the Postal Leisure Club to Kunstverein Saar

The association was founded in 1981 by employees of the postal and telecommunications sector as the "Postal Leisure Club for Fine Arts" and was registered as a non-profit association in the Saarland register of associations in 1989. In the following years, contacts were established with other postal art associations in Germany and abroad, including Karlsruhe, Bamberg, and Nantes.

After the privatization of the Deutsche Bundespost, the previous support services as a company social institution were discontinued; the association then also opened up to non-employees and was renamed Kunstverein Saar. Since 2024, Edelgard Müller has been the chairwoman of Kunstverein Saar, which today includes 84 members from Saarland, France, and Rhineland-Palatinate.

The exhibition can be visited on the 1st floor of the Town Hall St. Ingbert. Opening hours are as follows: Monday to Wednesday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Admission is free.
