More Space for All-Day Schooling: Topping-Out Ceremony for the Sixth Pavilion at Nalbach Elementary School
The expansion of all-day care at Nalbach Elementary School is taking visible shape: With the topping-out ceremony for the sixth pavilion, a key future project of the school is entering its final stages. The Ministry of Education and Culture is supporting the overall investment, among other things, with around 340,000 euros from the All-Day Expansion Investment Program.
The new building will create additional rooms for the open all-day school and at the same time expand the existing cafeteria. Once completed, up to 220 children can be cared for here in eleven groups. The additional rooms thus create the necessary capacities to respond to the growing demand for all-day places at the school location and the legal entitlement to all-day schooling.
Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger:

The expansions of Nalbach Elementary School are an investment in the future of our children and mean more security for their families in everyday life. With the new rooms, new places in all-day care are created. This is an important signal for parents who can trust that their children are well cared for even after classes end. We are advancing the expansion of all-day schooling step by step and ensuring that family and work are compatible. The expansion of all-day schooling is a crucial lever for this."
Minister of Education Christine Streichert-Clivot:
"The legal entitlement to all-day schooling is also a promise of education for us: Every child should be able to benefit from good all-day offers. With the investment program, we support municipalities in creating the prerequisites for this. All-day schooling gives children more time to learn, discover and grow together and makes school a place of learning and life where they can develop their strengths and talents. This way, we give all children, regardless of their background, the chance to discover their abilities and pursue their own path."
Nalbach Elementary School is a three-track elementary school attended by children from all four districts: Nalbach, Piesbach, Körprich, and Bilsdorf.
With the sixth pavilion, the existing infrastructure is now being specifically supplemented with additional rooms for the open all-day school. Three group rooms already exist in the building, and eight more group rooms are being created as part of the construction project. Additionally, the existing cafeteria area will be expanded.
District Administrator Patrik Lauer:
"Giving children space also means giving the future space. That is why this new pavilion is so important. We know from our many years of experience as school authorities for secondary schools in the Saarlouis district that good spatial conditions are essential – in every type of school and equally in teaching and care. When children have space to develop their abilities, experience community, and simply be children, this creates the perfect breeding ground for a good and happy educational biography."
The total investment for the expansion amounts to around 5.6 million euros. Financing is through a combination of various funding sources.
Around 340,000 euros from the All-Day Expansion Investment Program are being invested in the new building. Further support comes from funds provided by the Municipal Investment Promotion Act (LuKIFG).
Background
With the All-Day Expansion Investment Program, a total of around 47 million euros will be available in Saarland until the end of 2029. The funds are distributed via the districts and support the expansion of spatial prerequisites for the legal entitlement to all-day care for children of elementary school age.
