Flood and Heavy Rain Preparedness Concept: Citizen Workshops Start Mid-September
As part of the development of a flood and heavy rain preparedness concept (HSVK), the state capital Saarbrücken invites interested citizens
from mid-September to workshops for their respective city districts.
The first event for the Dudweiler district will take place on Wednesday, September 16, at 6 p.m., in the Dudweiler Community Center, Am Markt 115 in Dudweiler.
Registration is required at www.saarbruecken.de/starkregenkonzept
by Wednesday, September 9.
Sharing Experiences and Contributing Ideas
Mayor Uwe Conradt: "Floods and heavy rain can have serious consequences for those affected. In the workshops, we want to engage in dialogue with
people on site. The accounts of their experiences are just as important for the development of the concept as concrete suggestions and proposals for improvement."
Process
The events serve to jointly identify and analyze risk potentials together with the citizens. The goal is a concept for
the entire city area with concrete proposals for measures to minimize damage caused by floods and heavy rain.
Submitted proposals will be taken up by the involved engineering firm, subjected to a cost-benefit analysis, and reviewed afterward regarding feasibility and inclusion in the preparedness concept.
Additional Dates
Halberg District: Tuesday, September 22, 6 p.m., in the Brebach Gymnasium
West District: Thursday, September 24, 5 p.m., in the Burbach Community Center
Center District: Tuesday, September 29, 6 p.m., in the Rußhütte Full-day Volunteer Primary School (Maria Montessori School)
The number of places is limited. Interested parties must therefore register via the form on the respective event page of the state capital at
www.saarbruecken.de/starkregenkonzept.
Registration deadlines are one week before each event date.
Important note on the citizen workshops
The events address exclusively the topics of the respective city district. Interested parties are therefore asked to register only for workshops in their district. Those who cannot attend can submit ideas and suggestions via the email address
hsvk-saarbruecken@eepi.de.
These will be considered and reviewed just like the proposals from the workshops.
Collaboration with Engineering Firm and Funding by the State
In developing the flood and heavy rain preparedness concept, the state capital Saarbrücken is working with the engineering firm eepi GmbH.
In advance, it already received support from the International Coordination Center for Flood Partnerships. The Saarland Ministry for Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection covers 90 percent of the costs for the concept.
