Tradition, conviviality, and a colorful program for the whole family

From September 10 to 15, 2026, the city of Lebach once again invites you to its “Green Week.” For six days, visitors from near and far can look forward to a varied program with sports, art and culture, music, family activities, and the traditional Mariä Geburtsmarkt (Nativity Market).

The opening will be on Thursday, September 10, with the vernissage of the photo exhibition by Fotoclub 88 Lebach in the town hall foyer. At 7 p.m., Mayor Klauspeter Brill will open the exhibition together with the photographers, officially kickstarting the Green Week 2026. The works will be freely accessible during the town hall’s opening hours until October 2.

Friday, September 11, will be sporty with the 17th City Run “Running for School” by the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium. From 9:15 a.m., the students will run as many laps as possible between the town hall and Marktstraße to raise donations for school and charitable projects. The event concludes with a stage program in the festival tent around 1 p.m.

On Friday evening, the first evening of the popular Lebach Oktoberfests is on the schedule. At the “Evening of Businesses,” the party band “Habachtaler” ensures a great atmosphere in the festival tent in front of the town hall. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and at 7:30 p.m. the traditional keg tapping takes place in front of the tent stage. This event, which will last until around midnight, is already completely sold out.

A sporty highlight follows on Saturday, September 12, with the 13th Saarland relay triathlon of the municipalities. The event, organized by the Ministry of the Interior, Building, and Sports, is under the patronage of Interior Minister Reinhold Jost and Mayor Klauspeter Brill. It is locally organized and conducted by the Lauf- und Triathlonfreunde (LTF) Theeltal. After swimming in the Eppelborn indoor pool, the course leads over a 16-kilometer mountain bike or e-bike route through Lebach. The event concludes with a five-kilometer run around the town hall. The LTF supersprint is again integrated into the event. This event is part of the Saarland Youth Triathlon Championship. The award ceremonies are scheduled for 3 p.m.

Further information and registration options can be found at www.ltf-theeltal.de.

On Saturday evening, the festival tent on the town hall square turns once again into a big party zone. At the Lebach Oktoberfest, the band “Krachleder” will create a lively atmosphere from 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are still available for this event. Tickets can be purchased via Ticket Regional as well as on the city of Lebach’s website (blue button “Tickets”).

Sunday, September 13, is entirely dedicated to families. From 11 a.m., the city invites everyone to Family Sunday in the pedestrian zone and the festival tent. After the morning pint with the band “Blechhaufen,” guests can enjoy a communal lunch, coffee and cake, as well as a varied children’s program organized by the city youth welfare office and the voluntary all-day schools. In the afternoon, the winners of the Lebach cheesecake competition will also be announced. Musical entertainment in the afternoon is provided by the “Treue fest” Landsweiler Music Association from 4 p.m. In the adjacent pedestrian zone, there will be interesting attractions for young and old, including animals and vintage tractors.

On Monday, September 14, seniors from the Lebach district are invited to the Nikolaus Jung City Hall. At the traditional afternoon for seniors, guests can look forward to an entertaining program from 2 p.m. with music, coffee, cake, and savory sandwiches. The hospitality is provided by members of the Lebach local council, supported by Bundeswehr orderlies.

The Green Week concludes on Tuesday, September 15, with the Mariä Geburtsmarkt. With numerous new market stands, a stronger focus on regional products from the regional brand “Ebbes von Hei!”, and an expanded gastronomic offer, one of the largest and oldest markets in the region presents itself this year even more attractively. For the first time, there will also be a children’s program in the afternoon. Sales at the stands begin at 9 a.m. At 11 a.m., the keg tapping takes place in the festival tent in front of the town hall. Already from 10 a.m., Saarbrücker Zeitung and Kreissparkasse invite to free drinks at their booth in the pedestrian zone. Musical accompaniment is first provided by the Bubacher Dorfdudler and afterwards by Schaumberg Brass. Until 6 p.m., vendors invite shoppers to browse and buy. Afterward, the market winds down with food, drinks, and convivial gatherings in the city center into the evening hours.

Mayor Klauspeter Brill looks forward to many visitors: “The Green Week is our city’s most traditional event and uniquely combines culture, sports, customs, and sociability. With many tried and tested highlights and new ideas, we want to inspire both citizens from all districts as well as guests from the entire region. I look forward to six varied days full of encounters and shared experiences in the city center.”

Further information about the Green Week program can be found at www.lebach.de. There is also a special page for the Mariä Geburtsmarkt 2026 accessible by simply clicking the green button with the market stand.

Traffic disruptions and arrivals

Traffic disruptions are expected during the “Green Week”:

Running for School – running event of the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium on Friday, 11.09.2026 (in the pedestrian zone and the adjacent street “Am Markt”) – This will result in a temporary full closure of the street “Am Markt” (from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.). Traffic will be redirected/detoured via the parking lot at Theelufer.

Saarland Relay Triathlon with start and finish at the town hall on Saturday, 12.09.2026 – This will cause temporary partial or full closures between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the areas of the streets Am Markt, Talstraße, Im Theelgrund, Am Hallenbad, Wiesenstraße, Mottener Straße, An der Ziegelhütte, Friedensstraße.

Mariä Geburtsmarkt on Tuesday, 15.09.2026 throughout the entire city center. Parking and shuttle service at the Mariä Geburtsmarkt

For the first time, there will be a shuttle service organized by the city of Lebach at the Mariä Geburtsmarkt. Visitors can use the large parking lot on Hans-Schardt-Straße (at the recycling and disposal center) and conveniently and free of charge take a shuttle bus from there to the Lebach train station. This way, you can get directly to the market site.

Moreover, the meadow “Öl Groß” (intersection B268/B269) is traditionally designated as a parking area. From there, visitors can reach the market on foot in about 3 minutes. This parking lot is managed by the THW Lebach.

It is also recommended to travel to the Mariä Geburtsmarkt by public transport. With public transport, you can reach the Lebach city center directly by bus, Vlexx, and Saarbahn. Those who use the buses of the district transport companies for travel from the individual districts can travel on this day at a reduced market fare. The buses run according to schedule.
