On Thursday, 30.07.2026, around 16:45, a number of small fires occurred along the railway line from Rohrbach to Homburg on and around the track bed. Specifically, the fires were always in the accompanying greenery of the track bed.
According to current knowledge, a freight train with partially applied brakes was likely the cause of the fires.
There was no immediate personal injury caused by the fires.
Property damage occurred to several ground-laid cables belonging to the track area.
The exact amount of damage cannot be estimated at this time.
Due to noticeable smoke development on the L119, between Limbach and Homburg, the railway line had to be completely closed from approx. 17:00 to 19:00.
The high number of fires led to an increased demand for fire and police forces, as well as a corresponding publicly visible operation.
In addition to police forces, several fire departments were involved in the operation, including Zweibrücken, Kirkel, Blieskastel as well as Bexbach-Mitte.
During firefighting operations, one firefighter was slightly injured.
The handling of the operation lasted about four hours and was completed around 19:30.
